Internship Program

The legislative internship program is a work-based educational opportunity that provides college students with a hands-on, up-close view of the Virginia House of Delegates, its role, processes, and participants.

The College Internship Program offers undergraduate and post-graduate students an opportunity to become involved in the legislative process of state government.
Interns work directly with legislators and key staff members in the House Clerk's Office to assist in performing essential duties of the House of Delegates throughout the legislative process.

Interns assist in conducting research on specific issues; monitor and report on committee meetings for legislators; research and draft responses to constituent inquiries; and summarize reports or bills. Other duties may include tabulating opinion surveys; writing press releases; assisting with mail and telephone contacts; or initiating contacts with other legislators, administrative personnel, and lobbyists.
