Internship Program
The legislative
internship program
is a work-based
educational
opportunity that
provides college
students with a
hands-on, up-close
view of the Virginia
House of Delegates,
its role, processes,
and participants.
The
College Internship
Program offers
undergraduate and
post-graduate
students an
opportunity to
become involved in
the legislative
process of state
government.
Interns work
directly with
legislators and key
staff members in the
House Clerk's Office
to assist in
performing essential
duties of the House
of Delegates
throughout the
legislative process.
Interns assist in
conducting research
on specific issues;
monitor and report
on committee
meetings for
legislators;
research and draft
responses to
constituent
inquiries; and
summarize reports or
bills. Other duties
may include
tabulating opinion
surveys; writing
press releases;
assisting with mail
and telephone
contacts; or
initiating contacts
with other
legislators,
administrative
personnel, and
lobbyists.

House of Delegates Page
Program
Each year approximately
thirty youth, ages 13
and 14, are appointed
from across the
Commonwealth by the
Speaker of the House of
Delegates to serve as
House pages during the
regular session of the
General Assembly. These
young people assist the
members of the House of
Delegates, the House
Clerk's staff, and other
legislative staff in the
daily duties required
for the successful
operation of the House
of Delegates during the
session.

Program
The
Senate of Virginia
elects eleven pages, one
from each of the eleven
congressional districts.
Five pages are appointed
by the leadership of the
Senate to serve during a
legislative session.
Messengers are appointed
by the Clerk of the
Senate. |
