Welcome
Thanks for visiting
my virtual office on
the World Wide Web.
I am honored to have
represented the people
of the 28th District
for the past 16 years
in the Virginia House
of Delegates. I’m also
grateful for the opportunity
to lead this nearly
400-year old institution
as Speaker. Acting with
wisdom, integrity, and
compassion are goals
to which I aspire daily
in conducting the people’s
business.
The support of friends,
my constituents, and
colleagues has given
me many responsibilities
and challenges as a
citizen-legislator.
Yet, the privilege of
serving in the House
of Delegates offers
even more opportunities
to benefit and improve
people’s every day lives,
and do what’s best for
Virginia.
I will continue my efforts
to advance common sense
conservative principles,
new ideas, and policy
innovations that address
people’s concerns. We
also need to offer greater
freedom, hope and opportunities
for all citizens to
apply their talents,
live their ideals, and
pursue their dreams.
That’s what the Republican
majority in the House
is all about.
Already, we’ve accomplished
a lot:
 |
Raised state support
for public education
fives times faster
than student enrollment,
delivered higher
student achievement,
and made public
schools better.
|
 |
Increased access
to an affordable
higher education
by creating unique
programs that make
it easier to pre-pay
and save for future
college costs today.
|
 |
Improved Virginia’s
criminal justice
system in ways that
better protect law-abiding
citizens from violence.
|
 |
Reformed welfare
and strengthened
families by promoting
the work ethic and
personal responsibility.
|
 |
Brought new ideas
and creativity –
like public-private
partnerships – to
help accomplish
public needs in
transportation and
school construction
and deliver infrastructure
projects in a more
timely and cost-effective
manner.
|
 |
Focused scarce taxpayer
dollars on the core
responsibilities
of state government,
reduced state spending
by $6 billion, streamlined
the bureaucracy
by about 4,200 positions,
and helped make
state government
more efficient and
effective.
|
 |
Lowered taxes for
the benefit of our
hard-working families,
job-creating businesses,
and a stronger economy.
|
 |
And put free-market
tools to work against
“sprawl” and for
land conservation
and open space protection
of Virginia’s natural
resources. |
With our shared values
in action, I’m optimistic
about Virginia’s future.
Together, we will ensure
that our children are
well educated, our communities
safer, our families
healthier and more secure,
our lives more prosperous,
and our quality of life
even better.
